Quick, delicious, no frills, cheap, diner breakfast and lunch. Staff is nice but not very talkative. Perfect for sipping coffee and reading while you wait for your food.
Fast, friendly service! Classic range of breakfast diner options. Very accommodating to your needs, would recommend if you’re in the area.
Very reasonable pricing. Good crowd. Friendly service.
Decent food, good portions at an unbeatable price. The value is outstanding. The friendly staff and service makes this a true gem.
this place is rad. I used to go here all the time when i lived in nob hill and it was so cheap i'd get bacon and eggs breakfast and a full order of french toast and coffee and it was like $8 or something. The owner runs the place and is super chill. most importantly this place is the REAL DEAL not some douched out yuppie trap full of annoying tech nerds who moved here from mountain view last week. awesome, down to earth, local spot with good grub...and crazy cheap.
Cash only, but affordable for SF area. A nice breakfast/brunch will ring you up $12 - $15/person
A hole in the wall amid a neighborhood of holes in the wall, this small diner has excellent breakfasts - thick French toast, crisp waffles and bacon, perfect eggs. A really great, unpretentious place. They do take credit cards.
Been getting breakfast at this great diner for near 30 years, every time I am in San Francisco for work or with my partner on vacation we do the trek up the hill from the hotel to 901 Sutter. Love the local old time diner feel, the food is always excellent and the price astounding, nothing to fancy but everything is always really good.Had the horrifying experience of walking up here in early February when in town for work to find the joint closed, did a little investigating and found out it was only temporary...I am back in town in August, looking forward to reacquainting myself with this great little diner. It is truly a throwback to a different time in San Francisco history, local establishment catering for local customers
The BEST take on traditional American breakfast in Lower Nob Hill. The setting is quaint and the food is healthy, simple, and delicious - just like mom makes. The portions are generous - by FAR the best deal in town. I urge you to give this place a try - you won't regret you did. Note: If you're from NJ, this is the closest you'll get to a NJ style diner.
No frills dinner that offers great breakfast.
Great food, friendly service. I like refills coffee.
Very clean good food
Brilliant little eatery!
Great small authentic place. Love it
Great greasy spoon in San Francisco. Don't expect a fancy brunch - just good old corned beef hash with a few tablespoons of butter laden hashbrowns.
It's a cute little pink diner. There's not a lot of room, but I easily got a seat at the counter. The staff were very friendly and the prices are very affordable.
Nice mom and pop place the food was ok I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again but his you are local it's a quick easy stop for a cheap eats
Used to be one of my favorites
This is my go-to greasy spoon breakfast place. Pancakes, french toast, generous waffles, crispy bacon and eggs any way you want them. The service is slower during peak hours, but the food's great and the coffee is bottomless.Like: family run/ horseshoe-shaped barDislike: popular in the morningsGood for: hungover mornings, big breakfast before a bike ride
A nice diner for a solid breakfast. Service was attentive and friendly.
Had breakfast. Excellent food for a reasonable price and the customer service was amazing
Great countertop breakfast (or lunch/dinner) spot! The staff is very friendly, and the food is good. Wonderful place to stop off the busy streets for a quiet, quick bite.
Reasonable prices, friendly service. The food is good, but nothing special. Cash only.
Proper diner with amazing breakfast food. Friendly, attentive and quick service.
Cheap eats for breakfast. Basic American fare done right for a fair price. Setting could be any time between 1950 and today
Spot on classic breakfast fare at more than reasonable prices. Just like a midamerican diner breakfast, in a cozy San Francisco building, without the high San Francisco cost. Get the sausage over the bacon, and try the sourdough toast!
You get a decent breakfast at a great price which is usually hard to come by in SF.
Stumbled upon this little gem on my last visit in SF and had $22 in cash and we figured we could split something. I was flying back to PDX that day and wanted a quick bite before beginning the trek with my stuff to SFO. Service was quick and attentive in that my water was never empty. Not crazy friendly but not in a rude way, in a way that I appreciate. You're paying attention but letting me eat and enjoy the person I'm conversing with. We both had way too much food ordering individual meals with additions (our grand total was something ridiculous and barely over $10). This place is counter seating and service and cash only. I'm headed back in a few weeks and I'll be by for breakfast. This time I'll intentionally bring cash. 😊
Lovely place, tasty breakfast, nice people
Great little hole in the wall for a good breakfast. I was looking for a simple easy place for breakfast and this was the perfect place. Good variety of breakfast food with great prices. Very fresh as well. Very good coffee and they also gave me some complimentary fruit as well!
A small place for locals. A total staff of 3. The cook grates the hashbrowns as needed. A good value at a mom and pop shop.
I'll give them a 5 star because I love their waffles. I hadn't been here for over 20 years, my brother works in the neighborhood and I wanted breakfast even though it was lunch time. The waffle was good, smaller then I remember though. The sausage links were burnt but edible. My brother had cheeseburger well done with fries. He enjoyed his lunch, we lingrred over coffee until 30 min past closing. I'd go again if I'm in the neighborhood.
Old school everything. Nothing fancy ! Best hash browns.Really old school Cantonese cook is the coolest cook I've ever seem.o
Love this spot. We usually come here for breakfast and it’s great. On weekends it is usually full but the workers do their best to find a place for you to sit. I’ll recommend any of the omelettes (they’re delicious and come with hash browns and toasts) or the waffle with fresh fruit and whipped cream!
This is one of Lower Nob Hill's best kept secrets. If you're looking for a no frills diner that serves good breakfast, look no further than Golden Coffee. The breakfast here is cheap, delicious, and incredibly filling. I would highly recommend getting any of the breakfast entries, but there burgers and fried rice are tasty as well. Overall, it's the perfect meal after a late night out.
Place is great - no frills little dinner with great service and good reasonable prices. Small family owned operation - lots of local residents drop in for a straightforward diner breakfast or brunch. Make it a staple.
Want to eat good breakfast food with reasonable prices. The coffee is very very good. Servings are excelent. I would not trade this for an IHOP or Denny's. Make no mistake this place is VERY good.
Love this hole in the wall! Great prices for SF/Union Square.
UPDATE: Golden Coffee reopens this week (2/9/18). This neighborhood staple has been marked permanently closed; however, it's only closed while the owners take care of some family medical matters. It will hopefully reopen.
We live on the block, have been a patron here for 2 years. The old chef was our favorite and made a mean breakfast. Recently the diner has had a new staff and a bit of a revamp. Their bacon has improved since their reopening. Real nice and crispy. Their hash browns NEED WORK, they're more like a potato pancake. French toast is thick but NOT SOAKED in the egg/milk mix enough, so it's dry and mostly bread. Waffles are good, as long as you have one per order and ask for crispy - if two people order waffles they rush them cos there's just one waffle machine.Pancakes need to FLUFFIER please. They're too dense, need to be more airy. We see good IMPROVEMENT and want to come back. Ask customers for feedback on the dishes.
I used to go here often when I lived in the neighborhood. They had large waffles back then. Now they are smaller, but still good.
Basic decor, who cares when food is so quick and good. Corned beef hash nice n crispy, good coffee and eggs. Good value for money.
The place is very charming, has the “place that the locals go to” vibe. Nothing fancy or hip, but with a very pleasant atmosphere anyway. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is very kind. The food was fresh and tasty. A five-star breakfast/brunch choice for me!
Nothing fancy, just simple greasy spoon fare like omelets and pancakes, along with GREAT hash browns. No fuss no conversation waitresses keep your coffee full and the service tight. Small counter seating area, I think there is one or two tables by the window. Cash only!
A nice cozy diner style place. You can feel that it is family owned all around; the owners are nice a caring. They do everything themselves. On the flip side, because of this, you can feel that some of the ingredients are industrial. For example, the sauce they added on my dish came from a box probably bought in the supermarket. The bread is industrial as well, although the butter on it was good. The coffee is nothing to write home about. Bottom line, a nice place for American style breakfast.
Good food
Excellent waffles!
I don't typically leave reviews, but I wanted to give this place a shout out. It's a quaint corner diner with great food, and kind staff. It's a family-run business, and I really felt calm here. Give it a try!
Good coffee along with the wait staff, yummy.
I adore going here. The server knows my order and she and the chef are lovely!
